How BKPS writes stops, and how paid inclusion works. Last updated October 12, 2026.
How stops are made
Every BKPS stop separates the record (what documents show) from the legend (what people say), links its sources, and says plainly when we could not find any. That format is the same for every stop, including featured ones.
Investigator stops (paid inclusion)
Investigators are Patreon supporters at our highest tier. Each month they may propose a haunted place or story.
- Nothing is published automatically. We research every proposal ourselves.
- Capacity is limited. We publish one or two new stops a month and can feature about one Investigator proposal a month, so proposals are considered in the order they arrive and not every one becomes a stop.
- We decide. We may decline a place that is a private home, unsafe, inaccessible from a public street, impossible to source, or that we judge to be misleading. Supporting us does not buy a different standard of evidence.
- The format does not bend. A featured stop is written and edited by BKPS in the same record-versus-legend format, with sources. We do not state or imply that a place is haunted because someone paid.
- Credit is disclosed. A featured stop says "Contributed by [name]. Researched, edited and sourced by BKPS."
- Businesses. Proposing a place you own or work for is allowed only if the stop says so; we will not present a commercial listing as a historical one.
- Privacy and safety. We never publish a private person's address, and we tell visitors to stay on public property.
Corrections
If a stop gets something wrong, email info@bkps.co. We correct it and say so.
